ELK is more than an outdoor shop.
Based in Yamanashi, Japan, ELK is a place where people, nature, and community meet and grow together. What began as a mountain gear store has gradually evolved into something broader — a living ecosystem that connects outdoor experience, local culture, travel, learning, and long-term relationships.
At ELK, going into nature is not just recreation. It is a way to build connection — with landscapes, with other people, and with the places we move through.
Our work brings together multiple layers of outdoor life:retail and equipment support, repair and long-term care of gear, guided experiences in the mountains, travel programs, accommodation, and community gatherings. Each of these is not separate. They form one continuous relationship with the outdoors.
We believe that nature is not something to consume, but something to belong to.
This idea shapes everything we do. Visitors do not simply participate in an activity and leave. They return, reconnect, and gradually become part of an ongoing community. Many of our programs are designed not as one-time events, but as shared experiences that unfold across seasons and years.
Our home region, Yamanashi, is surrounded by mountains and rich local culture. We see this landscape not only as scenery, but as a living partner. Through hiking, cultural exchange, creative expression, and shared time outdoors, we explore how people and places can support each other’s growth.
In recent years, ELK has also begun working with artists, local organizations, and cultural spaces to create experiences that combine nature and creativity. These collaborations allow participants to not only move through landscapes, but to reflect, express, and deepen their relationship with the environment.
In this sense, ELK is not simply an outdoor service provider. We are exploring how communities can live in closer connection with the natural world.
Our vision is simple:To create ways for people and places to grow together.
We believe outdoor culture is not only about adventure, but about care — for land, for community, and for the relationships that sustain both.
ELK continues to experiment with new forms of place-based experience, and we welcome connections with people around the world who share an interest in community, nature, and meaningful engagement with place.
